About Us

The objective is to create a platform for promoting Interdisciplinary Research. It is envisioned that the department with its multi-disciplinary nature will not only accelerate its growth but would also enable to engage with faculty across other academic and research institutes like Panjab University,PGI,IISER etc.It is expected that over a period of time the department would be able to “seed” a number of inter-disciplinary PROGRAM that do not exist today.

To create a platform for promoting interdisciplinary research in Rayat- Bahra University.It is envisioned that the department with its multi-disciplinary nature will not only accelerate its growth but would also enable to engage faculty across academic & research institute like Panjab university, PGI,IISER etc. Research and Development (R&D) has been proved to be crucial factor moving the world technological frontiers, while at the same time facilitating new technological and scientific innovations. R&D comprise of creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge in various fields of science and technology and advance education, learning and expertise in the country’s manpower. In the last decades international knowledge, in natural sciences, social and economic fields, flows continuously and studies showed that is a major factor in world economic growth. Universities are an increasingly important component of the scientific innovation and technological advances in many sectors of the economy and production. The role of R&D is evidenced by the recent scientific literature on the impact of science and technology spillovers on growth and productivity of developed and developing countries. Expenditure in scientific research and technological development in most countries provided a set of indicators that reflect the increased economic progress and the advanced technological structure at national level. Appropriate use of R&D provide solutions to infrastructure systems (motorways, transport facilities, energy storage and electricity grids, telecommunications, sewers, naval ports, environmental protection facilities, etc) serving the economy, industry, and agriculture on a global scale.

Objective Of Ph.D. Programs:

  1. The Rayat Bahra University has a mission to develop high quality scientific and professional specialists having strong base of principles of science and the scientific methods, deep understanding of their chosen areas of specialization , the motivation to learn continually, interact with multi-disciplinary groups and to handle new challenges offered by the front-end technologies.
  2. The Ph.D. Program is designed to impart knowledge, and consolidate concepts and intellectual skills through courses, seminars, projects, and thesis work. Above all, it helps the scholars to develop the capacity for free and objective enquiry, courage and integrity, awareness and sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of the society.
  3. The Ph.D. Program provides the scholars an enabling research experience during their stay in the Rayat –Bahra University thus helping them to enter their professional life with right perspective and knowledge related to their respective fields of specialization.

Eligibility Criteria For Admission To Ph.D. Programs:

Admissions to courses of the University shall be based on criteria decided by the Academic Council of the University in accordance with the stipulations of UGC modified as necessary from time to time.

  1. Full-time/Full Time Sponsored/Part Time Scholars: Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy/Education/Management/Hotel Management / Sciences/Social Sciences /Law or equivalent in a relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate or CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale for general category. Selection criterion: As per UGC Regulations 2009 (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D.. Degree).At the time of interview, the candidates are expected to discuss their research interest /area.
  2. The candidate may, if he/she so desires, give the choice of possible supervisors in his/her application for Ph.D.. Program. However, this would not be a limitation on allocation of supervisors(s).
  3. 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates and 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates(As per UGC rules).
  4. For SC and ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5% in the minimum aggregate marks or CGPA of 0.5 on a 10 point scale.
  5. Seats as per University norms are reserved for the physically handicapped persons in all the Ph.D.. Programs combined. The distribution of these seats will be coordinated centrally.
  6. Only employees of Government Departments or Research Development Organizations or Public Sector Undertakings or Registered Industries /Companies and also the faculty of an Educational institution will be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Program as Part-Time Scholars. A Candidate under this category has to produce a ‘No Objection Letter’ from his/her employer stating that
    1. He/She is on the regular payroll of the organization.
    2. He/she is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis.
    3. His/her official duties will permit sufficient time for research.
  7. Full-time, non-sponsored candidates with scholarship coming on study leave must show proof of at least 3 years study leave before being allowed to register after the selection.
  8. The minimum prescribed percentage will be based on the marks obtained in aggregate of all the years/ semesters of the qualifying examinations as per the weightage followed by the concerned University.
  9. The relevancy/equivalency of Master’s degree for admission to a given discipline will be defined/determined by the concerned SRC.
  10. There is no residency requirement for local Ph.D. candidates ( both full-time as well as part-time) who are residing within 50 kms from RBU.
  11. For the part-time Ph.D. candidates, who are residing beyond 50 km from RBU, a residency requirement of one-semester duration is mandatory in the first year of Ph.D. Program.
  12. For the full-time Ph.D. candidates, who are residing beyond 50 km from RBU, a minimum residency of four continuous semesters from the beginning of the Ph.D. Program is mandatory.
  13. The attendance of full-time Ph.D. candidates will be governed by the attendance requirements of the University.
  14. Part-time Ph.D. candidates will be required to meet the supervisor at least eight times in a semester.
  15. As per the provisions 1(5) of the UGC Regulations 2009, Ph.D. program will not be conducted through distance education mode.

    • The student has cleared all the courses prescribed for the program.
    • The student has obtained at the end of every semester SGPA of at least 4.5 for Diploma & under graduate courses and SGPA 5.0 for post graduate courses. (For M.Pharm, B.Pharm, D.Pharm, B.Pharm (Practice) Courses, SGPA will be 5.0).
    • The student has obtained a minimum CGPA of 5.00 for Diploma & under graduate courses and CGPA 5.5 for post graduate courses.
    • The student has not taken more time than specified for completion of the course.
    • Student has satisfied all the rules of evaluation.
    • No case of indiscipline or unfair means is pending against the student.
    • No dues are pending against the student.
